Hi all; a question for Barbara: I was under the impression that the Insight volumes were published in part to rehabilitate the tarnished image of the Aid book once word spread that Ray Franz and Ed Dunlap, etc. figured significantly in the latter's production.

First and foremost, Torre: Welcome to this forum! Your English looks just fine and we look forward to hearing more from you. I for one would particularly appreciate your impressions on the news affecting the Spanish Bethel and the reaction o the Spanish brothers and sisters.

re: AllTimeJeff's comment about Jack Barr: I didn't know Barr, but I do think that Henschel also was a decent sort, and I mourned his passing. His one weakness is that he would subtly drop hints to wealthy JWs in order to obtain perks. He was athletic, loved to play golf and often joined up with locals in games of softball. By the way, thanks Barbara, for your priceless anecdotes!

No More Work on Saturdays at Bethels Worldwide
by Lost-In-Translation ina letter was read at tonight's meeting announcing that the governing body has decided to stop work on saturdays at all bethels worldwide.
bethel workers are encouraged to now spend saturdays with their local congregation in field service.
the new arrangement goes into effect june, 2009.. what do you think are the motives for such a change?.

With these people, there's always a hidden agenda; and almost always it's spelled: MONEY! The legal department and treasurer's office run the organization, it seems.... whoever said "follow the money!" knew what he was talking about.

$6,600 Expenses For a One-Day Assembly At a Fully-Paid-Up Hall? WTF!
by Room 215 inthe wife just got back from a one-day special circuit meeting (or whatever they call it) at the regional assembly hall.
it's got a capacity of about 1,200, fully paid for, staffed by volunteers and in use for less than eight hours.
then the guy making the announcement tells the crowd that the one-day expenses for the gig was about $6,600 (?!!!)...

The Finished Mystery Book---Was The Gov't Really That Upset With JWs?
by minimus in....or is this mostly an exaggeration from the witnesses?.

I believe it's also overlooked that Rutherford excised the offending pages in later editions of The Finished Mystery... how is that not a cowardly cave-in and compromise of principle?

I know my experience is from the mid-late sixties and I was a young Bethelite attending the Brooklyn Heights congreation right there at Bethel. I assisted in compiling the monthly service reports. The higher-ups assigned there (and they included Knorr and Grant Suiter) generally reported low-to-mid one-digit hours and little else. The perception was that they were counting mainly public talks or time spent explain Bethel work to associates who sold goods and services to Bethel. I saw - and recorded - these report slips first-hand.
